Garbage In Garbage Out

This is a big week for the house. This morning the ginormous dumpster that has been parked in our driveway for nearly two months was picked up. It was nearly overflowing with materials that have been pulled out of the house. Carpets, walls, weird fixtures, you name it it's probably in there. Enough "junk" to fill 40 cubic yards of space. I can't tell you how excited I am for that big ol' eyesore to have been hauled away!

This morning also marked the beginning of the asbestos abatement project that will continue through Wednesday morning. Dealing with this issue has been an enormous source of anxiety and it is relieving to know that it's almost over. We've opted to have all asbestos containing products removed from the house rather than encapsulating them. This includes flooring in the bathroom, kitchen area including addition, and much of the basement. It also includes much of our duct work, which will be removed and replaced.

It's really a thrill to think that all our demo projects will be completed by mid-week. In fact every time something is "finished" (nothing's ever entirely finished!) and we can check a task off the list it's a bit of a thrill. Next on the list is the reconstruction of the bathroom and when that is finished we'll refinish the floors and move in. It's going to be a wild ride right up until the end!

  1. Also, when the dumpster was pulled out it tore a huge hole in the neighbor lady's yard. The waste company is coming to fix it.
