Cabinets

We finally got all the doors on the cabinets. I've had some second thoughts about the color choices, but they look fun enough for now!

Home

Sorry for the light posting around here, but as you can imagine we've been busy little beavers getting everything in order and taking care of some loose ends. There is still plenty of work to be done around here and each step brings us just a bit closer to a finished product.

You guys, even in its half assembled state this place is awesome!

It could be that I'm just riding the high of finally being in a home I've spent so many years dreaming about owning, but I think it's more than that. This place feels so familiar to me already and I love the natural light and the fresh air breezing through the windows (Who knew the lack of AC would be a blessing in disguise?!) We are loving the front porch and spend a lot of time out there. The kids spend a remarkable amount of time playing in their yard despite the lack of actual yard. (Can't wait to get rid of those rocks!) The birds are so happy in the trees here and there are lots of tame-ish squirrels to chase. It's been pretty idyllic in that old fashioned neighborhood way. There's always a friendly neighbor of some sort out and about taking a walk with their dog, riding by on their bike with their kids on a trailer behind. I really enjoy hearing the kids chattering on their walk home from school around three and we've even met some of the residents of the Assisted Living Center down the street who push themselves to walk just a little bit further so they can say hello to the kids. What a life!

Tonight we learned that there is a bicycle meetup that happens every Wednesday at the park a block from the house. Families gather at 6:30 and then take off on a bike ride around the neighborhood. They are spearheaded by a bike with a darn good sound system and there are several interesting cyclists in the mix (the kids loved the one on the super tall bike). I'm looking forward to someday being a part of that crazy pack, but for tonight it was just fun to sit on the front porch and watch them all pedal by happily.

The months leading up to this point have been some of the most tense and stress filled days of our lives and I'm not sure that we would choose to muddle our way through them again if given a second chance, but with all that behind us now I could not be more satisfied with where we've landed. I suppose it's true that anything worth having is worth fighting for, and that the struggle just makes the accomplishment feel that much sweeter in the end!

We're home :)
